Upgrade from High Sierra: A Step-by-Step Guide

As part of Information Resources & Technology's efforts to ensure the security and stability of our systems, we are phasing out support for macOS High Sierra, macOS Sierra, and macOS El Capitan on Rowan-owned computers this summer. To continue receiving updates and support, it is essential that you upgrade your operating system to macOS Catalina by Friday, July 17.

If you have any questions or concerns about the upgrade process, please do not hesitate to contact the Technology Support Center at 85 or submit a ticket in the IRT Support Portal.

To complete the upgrade on your own time, follow these steps:

1. Locate and Install macOS Catalina Upgrade: Log in with your Rowan Network username and password, then go to Finder > Applications > Self Service and click on 'MacOS Catalina Upgrade.' Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

2. Prepare Your Computer for Upgrade: Make sure you have a stable internet connection and enough disk space to download and install the upgrade. Additionally, ensure your AC power cord is connected to your computer if you are upgrading a laptop.

Before starting the upgrade, please take the following precautions:

* Back Up Important Data: Save any critical documents or files to an external drive or cloud storage service like Google Drive.

* Close All Applications: Quit all open applications and background processes to avoid data loss during the upgrade process.

What Happens if You Don't Upgrade?

After Friday, July 17, Information Resources & Technology will begin automatically upgrading machines that have not been upgraded. If you are using a Rowan-owned computer with an outdated version of macOS, it is essential that you upgrade your operating system by the deadline to avoid potential security risks and loss of support.
